Getting Started with Ledger — Secure your crypto with ease and confidence

Welcome to Ledger.com/Start

Ledger hardware wallets are designed to provide you with complete control over your digital assets. This guide helps you through every stage of your setup — from unboxing to securing your crypto. Using Ledger Live, you can safely manage, monitor, and grow your portfolio while keeping your private keys offline.

Before You Start

  • Purchase your Ledger device only from Ledger.com or official partners.
  • Have your recovery sheet and pen ready to record your secret recovery phrase.
  • Ensure your computer and internet connection are secure and malware-free.

Step 1: Inspect and Verify Your Device

Check the packaging for authenticity. Genuine Ledger products come in sealed boxes without pre-set PINs or recovery phrases. If you notice any irregularities, contact Ledger Support immediately.

Step 2: Visit Ledger.com/Start

Go directly to Ledger.com/Start in your browser. This is the official setup portal where you’ll find downloads for Ledger Live, firmware updates, and security verification steps. Avoid clicking on ads or unverified links.

Step 3: Install Ledger Live

Ledger Live is your command center for managing crypto. Choose the version compatible with your device and OS (Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, or Android). Follow the installation prompts carefully, and once complete, open Ledger Live to begin setup.

Step 4: Initialize Your Ledger

  1. Connect your Ledger device to your computer or mobile using USB or Bluetooth (Nano X).
  2. Select Set up as new device on the device screen.
  3. Create a secure 4–8 digit PIN directly on the device.
  4. Record your 24-word recovery phrase on the recovery sheet — never store it digitally.

Step 5: Add Accounts in Ledger Live

After setup, open Ledger Live and select Add Account. Choose the cryptocurrency you wish to manage and verify the address on your Ledger screen before each transaction. This ensures complete protection from phishing or malware attacks.

Security Essentials

  • Never share your recovery phrase or PIN.
  • Keep firmware and Ledger Live up-to-date to benefit from the latest security patches.
  • Enable passphrase protection for enhanced privacy if supported.
  • Use metal recovery backups for better physical durability.

Troubleshooting

If Ledger Live doesn’t detect your device, try a different USB cable, disable conflicting extensions, or restart your computer. You can find detailed solutions in the Ledger Support Center.

Advanced Features

Experienced users can link Ledger with third-party wallets like MetaMask or Electrum for advanced DeFi and NFT interactions. Always verify transactions directly on your device before confirming.
